Print on Demand Niche Research Tutorial

What’s up guys by request today we’re doing a flying research tutorial to walk you through how i find the top niches of the week as well as just niches in general for me to enter and attack in my print-on-demand business so i mentioned yesterday in the top five niches i was going to use niche number one as an example in this video and i hope you enjoy it i mean it’s basically exactly what i do when i am validating so it’s not just finding a niche but then also validating that it’s a good one and not all niches are created equal by the way so if you missed top five niches make sure you go check that out because i did kind of go in depth into um this niche specifically as to why i thought it held a lot of promise and you know what why don’t we just get started [Music] quick reminder that my giveaway number 50 ends today so make sure you enter in addition to winning a license to merge titans upload automation merch ninja research tools bubble scout and all sunsets you’re also going to get an enrollment into your course of my choosing which is what i’m adding in just to sweeten the deal for giveaway number 50.

So that ends today make sure you take advantage you can find a link in the description all right here is your flying research tutorial also just to let you guys know in case you want to check out flying research i will put a link in the description along with what should take i think 20 off i’m pretty sure that they gave me a code that should save you 20 so i’ll put both of those in the description in case you want to check it out all right so when i log into flying research this is exactly what i do you’re seeing my exact process as i do it on the sidebar under research it says bestsellers so i go ahead and i click that the next thing i do on the best seller screen is i like to set my marketplace to com for the united states because the united states is the biggest market so you have the highest earning potential on the biggest market.

As a function of the number of customers i mean if anybody wants to disagree with that let me know but I’m pretty sure unless you were selling an Italia shirt in the Italian market after they won the euro chances are that’s just me making a joke um that the united states is honestly going to be the biggest market because i think there’s over 200 000 or 200 million uh people with access to an amazon prime account in the united states i know i heard that somewhere i wish i had written the source down uh but obviously selling prime eligible print on demand products on that marketplace is going to be or have the potential to be very profitable so i set the drop down to com then i hit search and then i see lots of top selling t-shirts.

And what’s cool about this by the way is that it puts it in order of the best sellers first as a function of the bsr which amazon makes publicly visible so as we scroll down we see shirts that are a little bit lower sales velocity and this is updated throughout the day i don’t know the exact interval so bsr definitely updates faster than flying research updates that’s one thing so you if you want the like most accurate information you go straight to the source you go to amazon but what a tool like flying research does is it will filter out the big brands and so we don’t have to scroll past a bunch of like disney and marvel shirts which is nice and it’s got some other functionality built in as well and i’ll show you that as we go so here’s the thing like i mentioned yesterday in my top five niches the more you look at the research tools.

And get a feel for the ecosystem of what’s selling uh the more things just kind of jump out at you you know because a lot of these best sellers are always there or when i say always there they’re not always there but you get what i’m saying like week over week not a lot changes in a normal year the reason i say normal year of course last year 2020 every week there was like new contenders making just massive sales because 2020 was just full of uh what do we even say i don’t know full of concentrated uh narrative you know i don’t know what else to say like people that steer the public consciousness there was lots of things and it was kind of like a ping pong like this that this that and every time that it switched uh shirts popped up in those niches that were selling extremely well like they’d go from like not existing to in the top ten you know what i mean in a week and that’s not normal.

So last year was a crazy year probably the best year for selling t-shirts ever and this year is more of a normal year so that’s why i’m saying that so when i took a look at this i was like all right what’s new oh this i’m ready to crush kindergarten shirt definitely was not there a week ago and it wasn’t really floating around the best sellers uh near the top and now it’s in the top five so i need to take note of that i’m making a mental note now what’s next before i go and add it to top five niches of the week i take some other steps the next thing i’m gonna do is i’m gonna mouse over it in flying research and you’ll notice that there’s a little info button that pops up so i click that and it takes me to a product detail page in flying research where i can see things like the bullet points the title the brand i’m assuming is there somewhere i can see the current bsr i can see the number of reviews.

I can see the price uh you can see they actually put a bsr thing there it says overall trend current trend average and median so that’s pretty useful information and you can see here the chart is what i look at first i can see that line that shows me the historical bsr and as long as it’s going up and to the right that is a good thing because they’ve kind of flipped the bsr thing on its head typically a lower bsr means more sales but the way that their chart shows bsr the higher it goes the lower the bsr is getting indicating higher sales velocity so this to me checks out that’s good and even at the bottom there by the way you see down here it shows some valuable keywords that we can target if we enter this niche based on what is driving traffic.

To this listing so that’s also valuable make note of that but is that enough now for you that may be enough i mean it depends on how many upload slots but for me trying to do top five niches i go a little bit further so i also because i only saw one shirt now i didn’t see multiple of these in the top ten and i also didn’t show if i kept scrolling i’ll show that in a minute but then what i do is i go to my search merch tool which i’ll link in the description and what this does is it filters out non-amazon merch t-shirts by the way quick note it’s been showing a lot of like orca whale results and that is a function of we have to pass in hidden keywords in the URL to filter out the non-amazon merch t-shirts.

And amazon made some sort of a change to their algorithm and now a lot of oracle whale shirts are popping up but if you search a niche that has some best sellers you typically won’t see the whales until you adjust some parameters anyways all right type in kindergarten type in search t-shirts by the way just want to mention i highly recommend grabbing my favorite chrome extension for selling on amazon it’s completely free it’s called ds amazon quick view i will link to that in the description as well with that chrome extension installed you will notice that the bar data point gets injected underneath each listing in search results on amazon.

So you don’t need to like click and go and scroll to find the bsr which is cumbersome and slow and amazon will throttle you if you hit their website too many times too quickly so ds amazon quickview is very useful for that purpose and now i can kind of scroll through the page of search results on the search term kindergarten and quickly scan the bsr and efficiently and get an idea of how well this is selling i can even take it a step further and grab the helium 10 chrome extension which they offer a lot of paid tools for mainly amazon fba selling but you can actually just make a free account and if you do a free account guys i’ll put a link to this also in the description you will be able to click the product listings that you see in search results you click the listings you go to the detail page and helium 10 will inject this chart into the page for you underneath the image.

And the the description and whatnot now what this shows you is historical bsr similar to how flying research did it but flying research doesn’t always have the same all of the products indexed right they don’t just have a clone of amazon’s massive database of products so like i said if you go to the source you’re getting the best and most up-to-date real-time information now a good bsr indicator looks like this i would say because each one of those drops that you see here in bsr by the way this is inverted from what you see in flying research where up and to the right is good on flying research down and to the right is good on helium 10 because that’s a lower bsr so every time you see a drop in the bsr that’s indicative of a sale taking place okay so make note this is making some regular sales recently that’s good okay now you’re thinking like ryan you’re going pretty in-depth into this niche well yeah this is what it takes to really get a picture of like.

How the niche is selling and it while with print on demand we don’t really have anything on the line you know we just spend some time and spend an upload slot but we can just delete it later when you do amazon fba you really need to pay attention to this stuff okay so that’s when it really matters um here another kindergarten shirt and the bsr was up there at 5 million and then it dropped below 1 million that’s probably just one sale honestly so it’s not like oh my god it’s the best seller now um it could be but also it could also just be like one sale or two sales you know uh.

And this one flatlined so this could be a new submission with no sales or it could have one sale but it might have been in the last 24 hours and helium 10 might not be displaying it yet so i just wanted to make that clear here’s another example of something very similar kind of a flat line so the data is not going to be perfect on every listing that you click this is why it’s nice to be able to open up a bunch of listings like on your mouse if you middle mouse guys you hit the little middle mouse button as a click so you can left click right click and then you can push your middle mouse button down it will open up any link that you’re hovering over in a new tab without you losing your focus of the page you’re looking at so you can just go to the first two rows of results middle mouse middle mouse middle mouse middle mouse middle mouse your browser is going to open up all these new tabs and you know you can operate more efficiently so you know me i’m always looking.

To speed things up right all right so in addition to doing that and kind of spying on each not each but a bunch of individual listings on the primary keyword that you searched you can go back to flying research you can continue to scroll through the search results of just the best sellers so now we’re going back to flying research and just scrolling through the best sellers look for more similar niches like for instance look over here as i attempt to do the green screen point which is not easy another shirt that says i’m ready to crush kindergarten okay cool so we’ve got another one all of a sudden it’s like.

All right two in the top like 25 niches or 25 shirts I’m noticing this now and then i took a screenshot here and just highlighted also anybody notice the similarities between all of the t-rexes in some of these best sellers so again maybe if you’re wearing a shirt towards a younger audience t-rexes seem to do extremely well so just mental note there also wanted to as we wrap up the video show you that you can scroll back up to the top and there’s actually a search term bar so in this case the t-rex shirt that popped up on my radar was related to kindergartners so i typed in kindergarten and then i hit search and what it will do is it will return us the best-selling shirts indexed on that primary keyword.

So here you go you see uh bars of sixteen thousand twenty two thousand twenty seven thousand forty two thousand forty four thousand so this is really validating to me that the kindergarten niche as a whole is selling really well now one thing that uh currently flying research does not do well is handle multiple keywords in the search okay so if you search one keyword it works really well if you search multiple like you hit spacebar and then hit another keyword it doesn’t work as well in my experience so hopefully they fix that soon but yeah so this is again further validating this niche as not just a fluke because sometimes something creeps up into the top 10 top 20 and it’s a fluke you do some research and you’re like oh this is the only listing making any sales there’s a bunch of competition and they’ve got you know 1 million plus bar.

So it’s not indicative of this niche as a whole making good sales so guys i hope you like this tutorial again if you check out flying research please there’s a link at the top of the description help support the channel if you use that also I’ve got a code to help you take 20 off if you end up using a license for it and before i leave wanted to remind you of course you cannot forget that magical step of checking to see is this niche safe which involves validating the trademark that it’s not trademarked and going and doing some market research on the pal platforms you intend to sell on just to protect your account so if you missed this video please i will link it in the YouTube cards do not miss it this video is one of the most important ones that I’ve ever published and noticed that i love the thumbnail because it honestly just reminds me of like messages and emails and uh Facebook group messages.

That i get like is this safe is this safe is this safe and ever since i published this video I’ve gotten way less of those questions so thank you so much for that it seems like the video is working all right guys and uh as i wrap the video up just wanted to remind you i have a seven-day amazon merch mini course completely free all i need is your email address you’ll get one lesson a day from me so take advantage of that it’s in the description I’ve got a merch by amazon Facebook group.

And last but not least a merch by amazon full course walking you through how i took my account from tier 10 to tier 200 000 it is a full knowledge transfer from me to you and of course the bonus section uh focuses a lot on like kind of the future of print on demand with like automation tools and whatnot and exclusive discounts on a lot of things too that are not publicly available they’re just behind the paywall so check that out guys all right thank you for watching please like and subscribe and I’ll see you guys tomorrow you.
