Are you getting ready to start a blog but you don’t know what topics that you want to talk about or are you thinking about narrowing down the blog topics that you are talking about but you’re not sure how to do it picking a blogging topic in the beginning can be really hard because there’s so many different things that you can write about so it can be hard to choose just one so in this video.
I’m going to be talking about tips to help you choose a successful blogging niche that will grow your blog let’s get started but before we do if you’re new here my name is Sarah and on this channel i teach blogging tips to women who want to make money and grow a business with blogging so make sure to subscribe if you’re new here so the first thing i want to talk about is what exactly is a niche and essentially what a niche is is just the topics that you talk about on your blog it’s really just the category that your blog fits under essentially so for example my topic is blogging but that is a bit too broad because there’s so many different topics that you could talk about underneath that blogging niche.
So i’ve narrowed mine down to specifically talking about blogging tips for beginners who have either just started their blog and they’re in their first month or they haven’t even started their blog yet and they’re looking for help on how to do that it’s important that you not only pick a niche but you also narrow it down a little bit so that you can talk about specific topics and actually target a specific audience in the beginning so for example if you were doing a lifestyle blog you would want to start a blog on parenting cooking personal finance blogging and gardening those topics are just way too broad.
And they could honestly have a website of their own just with one of those topics if you do want to start a lifestyle blog and you want to talk about a bunch of topics you can eventually do that but it’s really important at the beginning to narrow down your blogging niche to one to three different topics and really hone in on them so that you can grow your blog the fastest so the first question you want to ask yourself when you start to choose a niche is what are you passionate about it’s really important to pick a niche that you’re passionate about because you will be more willing to continue the blog and you’ll be more willing to learn more about those topics so you really want to think about what is the one thing that you have a lot of knowledge in because when you start out you want to pick a topic that you actually have some experience in you also want to think about.
A topic that you can’t stop talking about something that you’re passionate about you know something that you could write 100 blog posts on because eventually you are going to be writing 100 blog posts on this topic and you could potentially even be writing more so you want to make sure it’s a topic that you cannot stop talking about you also want to pick a topic that you’re willing to learn more in because when you start blogging you don’t have to know everything about your topic you do not have to be an expert to start blogging on a specific topic if you’re passionate enough about it you do want to have some experience because you want to be able to write some blog posts on it in the beginning but eventually you are going to run out of knowledge on these topics so you want to make sure that you pick a niche that you are actually willing to learn more about.
In and continue getting information.
So that you can pass that information onto your readers so the questions you want to ask yourself when you’re choosing a niche is what are you interested in how do you spend your free time do you have any hobbies that you’d like to do and what topics do you like to learn about those are really the three main things that you want to be focusing on when you’re searching for your passion so the next thing you want to look for is is there a market for your niche now you want to do some research and see if people are actually searching for the topics that you would be potentially talking about if you chose this niche so for example gardening you could google how to start a garden or how to grow tomatoes and the way that you find out if people are actually searching for these topics is you can use a tool that i like to use called google keyword planner google keyword planner.
Is a free tool that you can use from google when typing a word or phrase to google keyword planner you’ll actually see the monthly search results for those terms so for example if we were to type in um start a garden or how to grow tomatoes you would see the average monthly searches for starter garden is one thousand to ten thousand and you’d see how to grow tomatoes you would see ten thousand to a hundred thousand you may also notice that the competition for these words is high which that means that there are a lot of bigger sites that are ranking for these terms so it might be hard for a smaller site like you to rank for them so this is where keyword research comes in and you don’t have to worry about it too much now but at least you know that there are a ton of people that are searching for these terms and if you want to look for other terms so that you can check if you scroll down you will see that they have how to plant tomatoes gardening for beginners.
How to grow tomatoes.
And pots how to plant tomato seeds and then you can see the average monthly searches and the competition for those terms and you can just type in as many keywords as you want and you can even get blog post ideas this way but you really don’t want to worry about that until you actually choose your niche really all we’re trying to do here is to make sure that there’s actually a market and people are actually searching for the topics that you would potentially write about in your blog step number three for choosing a blogging niche is checking the competition of your niche so you can do the same thing that you’ve done in google keyword planner and just start plugging in topics that you want to talk about and you can see what different types of articles pop up when you search those terms you want to be looking.
At how good are the sites topics how good are the blog posts could you potentially rank above them if you were to go into this niche and you want to look at are there any blogs ranking on the first page of google that are like yours so for example if you see a bunch of huge websites like Wikipedia ranking or do you actually see some smaller blogs ranking on the first page so that you could eventually potentially try to rank for those topics tip number four is check the profitability of your niche so the four main ways that bloggers make money is with ads affiliate marketing sponsored posts and your own products so you want to think about are there products.
That you could actually recommend to people in this niche are there people that are going to be willing to buy stuff from you if you decide to pursue this niche maybe you could recommend gardening tools that you use or if you’re in the lifestyle niche and you talked about fashion you could recommend the different outfits that you wear there are a lot of different options with this so i’m pretty sure if you looked hard enough you could find a different you could find a way to become profitable in this niche but you also want to make sure that there’s a market of people actually buying those things that’s really the important thing here is are there people on the other side of the screen that are going to be willing to buy the products from you so that you can actually make money with this niche fashion blogs also do really well with sponsored posts.
But this is something that you’ll have to worry about later on but it’s just something that you want to think about and consider and if you’re an educational niche you could think about doing courses or printables or different things like that for products that you could create once you have an audience now my biggest tip here for you picking a niche is don’t get overwhelmed with all the information that you’ve learned once you research your niche i know there can be a lot of information with a lot of different ideas buzzing around in your head and for me once i gather a lot of information sometimes i get so stressed out that i don’t know what to do with all the information.
And i end up not starting or i end up procrastinating this is all just market research to make sure that you’ve picked a good niche don’t have to worry about products that you’re going to make yet you’re just here to make sure that eventually when you do this that you can do those things to make sure you’ve picked a good niche in the beginning so try not to stress yourself out with all this information take it all with a grain of salt and just pick the niche that you think is the best option for you now once you’ve picked a niche what do you do next what are the different types of blog posts.
That you can write so what you really want to do is start at step one when you start a blog you want to target the beginners of that topic so let’s use the example that we’ve been using gardening the type of people that you want to target in the beginning is going to be the beginners if you’ve been growing tomatoes for 20 years you have a lot of information that people need to know um but they’re not going to be advanced in that topic yet so you want to go all the way back to the beginning don’t be afraid to start over start from step one and really think about.
What would you like to know if you have started gardening today what do you know now that you wish you would have known back then that would have helped you start gardening and grow the best tomato i don’t know i don’t know i don’t garden whatever it may be so you really just want to go back to the basics and start with the beginner topic because eventually when you get an audience you’ll be able to grow it and they will want to know about those advanced topics that you have but you want to start out with the beginner topics so that they can grow with you and it also will help when you start writing on those advanced topics because then you can link back to the beginner topic so that you can keep people on your blog longer so that they could learn more information about the topic that you’re talking about.
So really just go back to the basics and start from step one what would you need to know if you had started growing tomatoes today if you want to learn more about how to start a blog i offer a free email blogging course where i take you through all of the steps that you need to know to actually start your blog so if you’re interested in learning more about how to start a blog i will leave a link in the description below so that you can check that out so my question of the day is what is your blogging niche have you picked one yet are you planning on picking one or are you struggling to pick a niche right away I’d love to hear what you’re talking about on your blog so make sure to leave a comment down below uh subscribe if you’re new around here and i will see you guys Thursday bye.
