Interviewer, What’s the most spiritual experience that you’ve, had What I think the most spiritual experience I’ve had Um, I haven’t really had one of those before I don’t really think of myself as a spiritual person. Probably, when I go to bed, because I usually think of like galaxy and heaven I don’t know why I don’t really do any drugs or anything.
If that’s, what you mean, I saw the Colber kids in concert when I was 15.
It was really spiritual.
I cried.
I went to a Billy, Joel concert.
He started playing that song yeah In the middle of the night.
Every time I dance is a spiritual experience, Yoga camp bro Giving birth.
Does that count I don’t ever want to do it again Done it twice? I had this experience that I subsequently learned was having my kundalini rise, which was very strange.
I went on a 10 day yoga retreat in Bali, 20 minutes sitting on a couch with the Dailai Lama.
When I was like five or six, my dad took us to the top of the Himalayas. We almost like died three times, but it was amazing.
I got the opportunity to be baptized in the Jordan River, which is where Jesus was baptized.
I went to Israel for the first time a couple years back.
I just felt so proud of my Judaism and so connected.
You know what getting arrested.
You have no choice but to almost find God and look up, and then that’s the only thing that kind of helps you get through it.
When I was 21, I traveled to Paris for the first time Being able to roam the streets.
Just aimlessly was probably the closest thing I’ve ever had to a spiritual experience.
I went up to see the eclipse The second it went dark that was just an otherworldly feeling These five day, rafting trips out of Moab Utah down the Colorado River, with thousands of foots of cliffs next to you and totally isolated on the river and silence Like When I’m completely removed from my phone, We were just like in cabins in the woods, so I could really be with myself.
I was in a movie theater, watching this space movie and it looked so crazy. It just felt like there’s, no way that we’re here by chance When we got in a car accident.
I was like shaking, and it was just me and my mom and it was spiritual.
I guess I ran over a cliff in my car rolled over, I thought.
Surely I was dead.
I spun across four lanes of traffic on the 405 freeway And I got out of that car alive and practically uninjured at all Yeah.
It was the hit that said, you know what maybe you should start going to church.
I remember with my daughter I was in labor for like two days And I was trying to do natural HypnoBirthing and it wasn’t working.
The last thing I wanted was a C section, but when my daughter came it didn’t matter, She was just perfect and that was probably the most spiritual moment of my life: Soul, pancake .
PAUL LEWIS: A couple of minor updates today– firstly, that you can see on screen, styling is getting underway, which means I've got just a place holder for the actual page content. But I've got a footer in place with a couple of links, the header. You can go around the individual sections. Let me just make that a bit wider. Code of conduct as well, that's in there. Need to do a little bit of tidying up there, I think, on the text positioning. But you can see styling is under way, finally getting somewhere a little bit more visual, which is good for me. And then I've also worked down here, like so, pretty much as we were hoping to see. So that's the good news. Oh, I should mention the other thing, which is the styling, I've actually opted for a slightly different solution in the end. Do you remember how I mentioned about I was going to do inline styles and then like full fat styles, and I wasn't sure if it was going to work.
OK, I've concluded a couple things. Firstly, that I should keep things simple. So let me show you what it's like on a normal, standard issue page. Basically, you can see here– I can get rid of a bunch of that there, can't I? We have just the style sheet, straight in to the style sheet. So that is actually what we're going to do. And that would be render blocking. However, what I'm banking on mostly is that most people will come via the home page to the site. So if somebody comes here, yeah they're going to have a bit of render blocking.
I don't think it's going to be that much, though. At the moment, the styles are 6 and 1/2 K. It's not a big deal. They'll get more. They'll get bigger, obviously. But hopefully, by the time gzip is on, hopefully, not a huge deal. It's not loads and loads and loads of styles, but we can still improve it. And as I say, most people, I think, are going to come to the home page, where I take a slightly different tack, and I do use the inline style. So I have a style tag here with just those inline styles. So it's things like position information and so on– all fine– and a bit of coloring information. And then I load, via the JavaScript that you saw last time, I inject this style sheet by JavaScript. Some people on YouTube were saying, well, what happens if you don't have JavaScript? Fair enough. It's a great question. That's why no script was invented. And inside the no script, we can pop in the link to the style sheet. So we'll get inline styles.
If somebody hasn't got JavaScript, then they'll get the link injected by the no script injected. It's in the no script. That will cause the style sheets to download. And then for everybody else– and in both cases, by the way, if they get it from here or they get it from the injected one, now the cache is kind of primed. So when you then go to schedule or location or code of conduct or whatever, the CSS is already in the cache, and so we'll get s back nice and quickly. There are some file inline styles specific for each individual page. So rather making a separate style sheet for, say, home or schedule or location, if there's specific styles for that page, I'm inlining those as well. So it's a kind of combo of those different approaches. We'll see how that pans out. It could be that I revisit it again. Just to show you, though, by the way, if I disable JavaScript in Dev Tools, hopefully all being well, we still get all the styles.
Because even though we got the style there, with the no script, you can see that that's actually now, instead of a piece of text, that it's actually a link. That's actually become a thing. And you can see here in the network, that while we don't have any JavaScript being downloaded, we do have the style sheet coming in as well. So it seems like a pretty good combination of those two, inlines versus actual links. Good sign is that it's not render blocking pretty much when I do this. So hopefully, that will pan out, but we'll see how we get on. So there you go. Some stars in place– good. So, yeah, the mashing up of all those styles, it's good. Don't forget you subscribe, by the way. "You subscribe? No. Say that again, Paul.
Don't forget that you can subscribe. I mean you should subscribe, if you want to. Far be it for me to tell you what you. Anyway, you can subscribe, and hopefully you're enjoying these diary videos. Thank you to everybody who's been popping comments in below and making suggestions and just generally being involved. That's kind of what I was hoping was going to happen. So, yeah, cool. I'll see you next time..
Back, by popular demand, another, show on unbearable pain the one, thing we all fear. If we are not practicing masochists In fact it s one of humanity. S common connections Pain transcends culture and? While our viewers often disagree in the comments, pain in some ways brings us all together, We decided to do a part two of this show, not only because it was so popular the first time around, but also after reading your comments, we realized many of you think Some other pains deserved to have been on that list. How many times did we see the words Lego, testicle or toe Hundreds of times, maybe even thousands, So we thought we should give this another go and add some new painful possibilities to scare you. Welcome to this episode of the Infographics Show Most Painful Things. A Human Can Experience, Part 2, As we said in the first show, we can t accurately measure pain because, for the most part the hurt is in the mind and body of the sufferer. Nonetheless, science has tried to measure pain, sometimes employing brutal methods. These days, we use pain, scales that start with minimal or mild and end with severe or even unbearable. Unbearable can mean just that for some people and they have taken their own lives to end the suffering. This is usually a result of what we call chronic or habitually reoccurring pain, not just a one off like someone poking a pin into your pupil, Pain forums are full of people discussing such unbearable pains and testimony of the sufferers is the best place to figure out What hurts most, especially if many people tell the same story, But we ll start with perhaps something much lighter only because you talked about it so much. This is the story of standing on Lego or, more specifically, a Lego brick. Does it really hurt that much? Firstly, stepping on anything sharp hard or pointed with the sensitive area of the foot can hurt a lot. Have you ever stood on an upturned plug or a glass miniature of the Great Pyramid of Giza? Ok, that s a long shot. You will yelp like a dog having the door slammed shut on its tail. The reason standing on a Lego, brick hurts so much is because the underside of the foot has about 200 000 sensory receptors and that tough piece of Lego doesn t give way at all. You could compare this to stubbing your toe, which can make you hop around for a minute. Howling curse words. You never thought you were capable of saying. As one scientist writes on Medium, your hands and your feet are the parts of your body that interact with the world, and so they are full of nerve endings that provide sensory feedback to our central nervous system. According to him, it is our feet that are the most sensitive because they will tell our brain when we are walking into hazardous areas. Only standing on Lego or stubbing, your toe isn t like slowly walking towards dangerously hot ground it s a massive whack to these nerves, all in one go, But he goes further in the explanation. Firstly, when you hit any area that is not protected by fatty tissue, it hurts like a beep, but he also says that, because in the past it was your feet that would get cut or scratched easily and sometimes become mortally infected. We evolved in a way that made them so sensitive. We need our pain to guide us through life. Remember that people with congenital analgesia or insensitivity to pain, navigate every day on a tightrope and are forever getting injured. So, yes, these shocks of pain hurt a hell of a lot, But can you imagine if that pain was sustained? What, if a Lego accident or the feeling of hitting your toe into a step or even cracking your knee on the corner of a hardwood table, lasted for an hour What about a day or even a few weeks? What, if that pain? Just came back for twenty minutes every afternoon of your life. It s chronic pain. That really makes people suffer the kind of pain you wouldn t laugh at as you would. After throwing that piece of Lego from the highest window. There are plenty of people on back pain forums discussing what they call unbearable pain, so much pain that they can t move even after taking strong pain medications. One person writes that when it first happened to him, It was so immense that I felt my blood pressure being affected. I was almost going to get unconscious On the website Spine Health, a woman says she feels like she is constantly being tortured. Writing. I do think about suicide. There are many reasons you might have back pain, You might have slipped a disc, have a pinched a nerve or you might even have cancer. What about cancer? Surely that hurts Well. We are told that the most painful cancer is that of the head, the neck, the bones brain lungs and pancreas. It can be severe and debilitating It. S said that the crippling headaches people with brain cancer suffer from cannot be made less painful with drugs in around 50 percent of people. One woman on a forum writes about her lung cancer, saying I have taken tramadol, steroids and diazepam and have tried to use my heated wheat pack, but nothing is touching it. So we know that lasting pain might not be the worst in terms of extremeness, but it surely causes the most grief. One of the worst things about cancer, of course, is that statistically many of us one day will have it. Gout is also common, which is a kind of inflammatory arthritis. This can affect those sensitive joints in the feet, ankles and knees, and can get much worse over time. The pain can last for days, then go away, but then come back again and again for the rest of your life. The CDC has one adjective to describe gout pain, and that is intense. It happens when uric acid crystals form in the joints, causing them to swell. For the most part it is caused by unhealthy living so lay off the booze beer is the worst sugary drinks and keep your weight down. You might also just be susceptible to gout, though Instances of gout have shot up over the last 30 years, and the USA leads the way in terms of annual years of healthy life lost per 100 000 people. The arthritis foundation tells us 4 percent of Americans suffer from gout. The Guardian wrote in 2014 that 1 6 million people in the UK were suffering from it, adding It is excruciatingly painful and for the most part, avoidable One person on a gout forum writes. This. Is the most severe agonizing pain I have ever had to deal with Even the slight movement of my leg, a cm or two in the wrong direction, results in severe pain, Sticking with the This Could Happen to You theme, sorry about this. We introduce toothache What You may be thinking, because we ve all had toothaches from childhood to adulthood, and it s not that bad. But some of you know very well that not all toothaches are made equal. The ones that hurt the most called severe and unbearable often require emergency treatment, lest the sufferer go out of their mind. Forums are full of these people screaming for help telling you no drugs, not even opiate, based pain killers, have even the smallest impact on the pain And don t, even think about sleeping, not even after days As one person writes It s hell on Earth And plenty Of women on forums describe it as far worse than childbirth. These kinds of toothaches are often infections in the pulp of the tooth. We call this pulpitis, although there are different strains of this. A dental site tells us Activated enzymes, causing the breakdown of proteins, create pus, leading to severe pain in pulpitis, acuta purulenta. If left, the infection grows until putrefactive gases start to spill into the nerve tissue, but, unlike other parts of your body, the teeth can t swell, and so that is why people call the pain extreme or in the words of Motherboard, The most unbearable pain, The nerves. In there are all hooked up directly to the brain, leaving no room for pain amelioration, But the thing is it doesn t let up and what feels like your head being shocked by electricity may get to a level leaving you on the floor. Squealing like a banshee. You might also get an abscess. Your options are root, canal or extraction, because it won t go away. Anyone who has experienced this kind of pain for more than one day will tell you they felt like ending it or in less severe cases, knocking the tooth out themselves. A quick Google search reveals that many people have killed themselves over toothache. One man in the UK wrote this as his parting words. I just can t stand the pain any longer, Sorry Allan. So these are some terrible pains. You might be wondering if something like having your eyes pulled out, hurts more It s hard to say, because the shock and the body s response will react so quickly. A woman in the US gouged out both of her eyeballs in 2018, while in church, apparently to sacrifice her eyes to God. She s now blind and we assume no longer in physical pain. It seems that the body comes to the rescue, with all sorts of traumatic pain, releasing its own natural opiates and other chemicals to reduce the pain. It seems with chronic pain, though the brain doesn t have enough magic, As one doctor says, when we stub our toe. The message is sent through the spinal cord to the brain and we hurt, but the brain then reacts to this abnormality by helping us out with pain relief, Unfortunately, for chronic pain. There s no answer and as the National Center for Biotechnology Information writes, Treatments for chronic pain are woefully inadequate, So to all of you suffering from chronic pain. We hope you get better For the rest of you. Don t think too much and enjoy the glorious pain free moment of each day. Can you think of other pains that we should have included here? Let us know, in the comments, Also be sure to check out our other video, Most Painful Things. A Human Can Experience part one Thanks for watching and as always don t forget to like share and subscribe, See you next time.
welcome to another easy build video where you can learn how to build a professional grade website quickly and easily without any prior experience or coding required I'll be adding new content to this channel on a regular basis so if you want to keep up with the latest website building tips and tools just click the like And subscribe buttons below the video all right continuing on now the fun part we get to actually set up WordPress here so you can get to your Hosting account several different ways in here uh one is by hovering over this emblem I just mentioned and click go to C panel or simply go to your hosting list on the left uh menu and you'll also see a link right there so you want to go to your C panel and now you're going to see a different screen and this is a different dashboard than your actual name CH dashboard and this is where we're going to install WordPress and a quick note I already pulled this up um this is the domain that I'm going to be building out and you should see a screen something like this um after you register your domain and set up hosting it's just going to be a you know a page like this with very little information that is normal once we get WordPress set up you'll start seeing changes after that all right so in your C panel right here under scripts you want to click on WordPress and takes you to this page if you have multiple installations of WordPress it will allow you to manage them from here what we're going to do is a fresh install and want to make sure to use the https version and if it's not showing up once again it probably means that your SSL certificate is still in that pending status so if that is the case if you don't see https right here uh just wait you know like I said another 10 to 20 minutes and come back and check again but you do want to pick the secure version that's what gives you this little lock up here um you definitely want that and if you're going to build an e-commerce site it's re you have to have that on there now using the www before your domain that is just a personal preference there's no advantage or disadvantage either way I prefer I set up all my sites without it um it's shorter so I am picking the non www version and I am actually building out this site right here easyb buildworks this right here is very important you want to leave this blank and you do not want anything in this little box right here because basically what that means is people will have to navigate to easybuild Works WP to view your site and you don't want that you want it on your root domain so leave this empty the version you're just going to leave the most recent it's usually prepopulated with that um go ahead and fill in your site name I'm just going to put my domain name for the moment description this is just like a tagline um you know you can just type in whatever you want you can you can go back and change this at any time in the WordPress settings so this is not uh super important at this point in [Music] time you don't want to enable any of these options right here and it's going to pre-populate an admin name and password um I'm just going to leave all that right now I can go back and change that later it gives you a list of plugins that you can install along with WordPress um you can always go back at any time and add additional plugins after you've installed WordPress so if you don't get something installed here that's completely fine I usually leave this limit login attempts checked what that does if somebody's trying to hack into the back end of your site just by guessing a password um you can have this plug-in here set up to where it will limit that so for instance if they type in like three times the wrong password it's going to lock them out for a specified amount of time I usually leave that checked the rest of them I don't worry about my particular hosting plan has automatic backups already set up and configured um if you didn't pick that one you can go ahead and choose this if you want um there's also some other options available for automatic backups which we can cover later Advanced options you don't want to actually yes you do want to change something here make sure these are set to Auto upgrade WordPress plugins and themes I'm going to go ahead and change this over here to any latest version not minor versions only the only risk here with auto updates is sometimes if there's some kind of conflict between a plug-in update and the WordPress core files you may you know you may have an error and your site could go down temporarily uh in which case there would be some technical troubleshooting to do to fix it that is not very common I've been doing this for quite a few years now and it's it's really very uncommon but it could happen but that is also why I chose the plan with the automatic backups uh already enabled because then if there is an issue you simply go choose the last working version and within a few clicks you got your website back up and going regardless I'm going to auto update everything otherwise you have to go into the WordPress dashboard and manually do it I'm going to leave these set here like it is this automated backup section ction because I already have that enabled in my Hosting account not going to select a theme at this time we'll do that from within the dashboard dashboard all we're going to do is finish getting this um installed here so go ahead and click install and this is going to take a bit so why this is installing that actually went really quick so after it's installed you should see a screen very similar to this and just tells you it's been successfully installed at easyb buildworks in my case so this second link here uh whatever domain you use it's going to have your domain first and then SL wpen admin slash what this link is is the uh takes you to the backend or the dashboard of your WordPress installation so I'm going to click that and it should automatically log me in which it did all right so WordPress is now installed on your site and if you go to the the front end of your site you know just the uh easybuild dotworks without the the wp admin this is what you know users are going to see they're not going to see your dashboard so I'm just going to refresh this and there we go so WordPress is installed this is just a default theme we're going to change all of this uh throughout the tutorials here so what I usually do you can go ahead and close your uh softaculous screen there or your C panel screen when I'm working on a site I like to personally have a tab open for the front end of the site here and then one in the back and as you'll see throughout this you'll pick up on the reasons why it's just a lot easier and quicker for certain things so I'm going to leave that up there we're going to head back to the dashboard here and the first thing I want to do is add a new user go down here to users all users and usually I do this during the installation process but in this case I just left the default uh autogenerated username and password in there uh just to show you guys how to add a new user if you want to down the road this is where you do it from so here is that auto generated user click on add new user and and just go through here and fill all this out um there's two required Fields here you can either use the autogenerated password or back out of it or erase it and type your password here obviously that's not going to be my password so type in whatever you want in these fields um whether or not you want an email for documentation sent to you the role here is very important you want this if if you're using this for yourself you want this to be an administrator account that gives you full access to everything in the dashboard otherwise um depending on which level here you pick you'll be limited on what you can and can't do in the dashboard and this is for other functions you know depending on what you're using your site for down the road we'll get into those at at some other point in time for right now if you are adding a different User make sure they're an administrator next we're going to go through some settings before we get into any uh adding any content or design features or anything of that nature always go through these settings over here in the leand side and make sure everything is how I want it some of these we're going to leave alone but uh we will make a few changes here so go ahead and click on the settings General tab okay and as I was explaining during the installation process when we were in the cpanel dashboard this is where you can change your site title or your tagline at any point in time so if you ever want to alter that you just come back here and change it if you decide you want a subdomain or like the www part in front of your domain you can add it here you just need to make sure that they match in both of these boxes right here I don't recommend using that but it's you can if you want these are pretty self-explanatory um unless you have some kind of membership site leave this box unchecked that's a little bit more advanced and it's not something we're going to cover in this tutorial right here you can go through and change your time zone and date format and time format this is just personal preference here when writing a blog post WordPress will naturally or inherently includes some metad data which usually includes the date and time of your post so that's what this is referring to so this is just is whatever your personal preference is so go ahead and set these how you want and click save changes all right moving on to the settings and then writing tab this is not something I usually mess with right here so let's go to reading and same way there I'm not going to change anything okay on the discussion tab this is where I make some new changes on this site I am not allowing people to submit comments on new posts I'm also going to check this box here users must be registered and logged into comment and also down here comment must be manually approved between those three we shouldn't have any issues with comments showing up go ahead and click save changes media this is just discussing your thumbnail sizes and things of that nature I'm not going to change any of those settings permal links is where we will change something this simply refers to page name structure and how your web address will appear for you know different pages and posts that you might create and that's what's going to show up here by default I have the day and name option selected um that's not real helpful when it comes to SEO or search engines being able to index your sites and sort through content I prefer either the post name or custom structure here and more often than not use the custom structure because I like to also include the category so we're going to highlight this just delete all that and you can see they have several available tags um we're going to click category and post name what that'll do as you see later when we create posts uh you got to assign post to a certain category or will you pick a category and so this structure here will automatically add the category name um before the post name so that is good for SEO and just generally organizing your content so we're going to leave that with category and post name go down here to save changes okay back to the settings menu under privacy we are are not going to do anything here um what will happen here as we create a a privacy page we can come back here and assign it to this particular setting here light speed cach all that is uh a caching mechanism simply speeds up your website uh we're not going to mess with that right now everything is on this was installed by default we're going to leave that alone if you want to learn how to quickly and easily build your own website or online store from start to finish join us at easybuild dworks hope to see you there
