Hi everyone, and today I’m going to show you how to create a unique design from a blank canvas in GoDaddy studio. Now, of course, there are a thousand different ways you could take this, but in today’s example, we’re going to touch on most of the tools and the content, libraries at your disposal and that should hopefully set you up to go crazy and try things out for yourself. So, let’s get started with a blank canvas today, I’m going to use a square format and I’m just going to start adding things one at a time and we’ll slowly start to see how it all comes together.
So, I’ll begin with an image at the bottom left is my image button and if i tap that it will give me access to the unsplashed library, i can of course also access images on my device or in my GoDaddy websites and marketing library. But for today I’m going to search unsplashed because they just have so many incredible royalty-free images to use and we’ll use this one of women on a skateboard.
Now, as soon as your image is on, your canvas you’ll see that beneath the canvas there are a range of editing tools that become available to you could, for example, put on a photo filter which can very quickly give you a unique look and feel for your Image beneath that there are some more tools for fine tuning.
If you select adjust, you can start to play with the contrast and saturation and things like that. Then, of course, you can crop the image you can change the size, add shadows, um, adjust the opacity and so on. There’s a whole range of editing tools at your disposal, a couple more we’ll touch on later in this tutorial, but for now I’m going to leave it like that.
Don’t forget, there’s also the remove image background tool, which is a brand-new addition to GoDaddy studio and with a single tap. You can remove the background from your image and that could be useful for a range of applications, but not today. In fact, this is a good point to show you how to undo something right at the top of your screen. You’ll notice, there’s that arrow tap on that to undo, and that can just take you back intime. In case you made any errors.
Holding down will also call up the redo button, so you can take a step forward alright, so we have our image in place um. I think what I’d like to do now is add a graphic that is going to add a particular effect to our image. So, in my collections, i have saved these light leak overlays and what these can do is create a really cool sort of retro film, aesthetic to your images. So, what you do is you place it over the image, and i know that doesn’t look like much, but if you see in our layer stack up here, i now have the light leak above that image and in order to make this effect ready work navigate.
All the way to the bottom menu and go all the way to the far right, where you’ll find the blend tool. And then you can scroll through the blend tool to get a range of different uh applications of how it can merge that light leak. With your image, i think for something like this screen works really well, and you see how that adds quite a realistic, old-school film photograph technique to this image all right. So that’s one type of graphic that you could add to your design.
I’M going to show you another one now, by tapping on graphics, again and once more saved in my personal collection, I’ve saved one of these psychedelic frames from a recent collection, we’ve added and I’m just going to add that around the edges and that looks really cool. So, you can see already there’s two very different types of filters of graphics. Some of them add textures to your images. Some of them are just really playful fun, almost illustrative elements for your design and then some like the next one, I’m going to add, can actually be quite functional.
So once again I’ve saved this in my collections. We have these retro, funk, graphics and included in this pack are some link in bio buttons, which i I’m pretty sure i saw a little bit earlier yeah here we go so i can maybe pick one of these, and this is quite functional as a graphic, because Instead of having to type this out and create a button, i can simply add that to the bottom and create my call to action for my post, okay. So, let’s move on and look at text next, because that’s really cool, exciting part of the design process.
So at the bottom again in my menu I’ll tap on text and I’ll start with something simple like a sale and i’m just going to add that straight away to the canvas now fonts are a lot of fun to play with and to find the perfect Ones for your personal style for your brand and um you’ll notice that underneath the canvas we now have, our font tray available to us and you’ll see that just by scrolling through you can start to see what all of these different fonts look like on. Your canvas now bears in mind there are more than 600 different fonts to choose from in GoDaddy’s studio.
So, if you’re looking to find more, you can navigate all the way to the left-hand side of this tray and tap that up arrow, which will take you into our full library. And then you can search to your heart’s content for the perfect font. For you, i think in this example, I’ve already worked out the one I’d like to use, it’s called horizon, and I’m just going to put that in position and I’m going to show you a little trick now something that might come in useful down the line.
I know that horizon has two different variations and i can now duplicate that text layer. So, we see i now have two of those layers, but the second layer, I’m going to change the font and I’m going to use the outline version of horizon and perhaps change the color. Let’s just change that and you’ll see now.
If i slightly misalign it, it creates this really cool effect where you have a solid font and an outline font on top of each other. Now. The next thing I’m going to do is add a second line of text, because one of the ready, creative things you can do with text is started to pair your fonts. So, this is going to be a summer sale. Now I’m going to have to select a different font, that’s going to pair nicely with my existing horizon font and ah there we go.
That’s hiding right at the end, i think that’s going to work really well, john, would be cool is if summer was in the exact same orange color as my frame, and i know exactly how to do that. If you navigate to the color selector, i can now not only pick from the fonts that are available or sorry from the colors that are available in my palette. I can select a color if i go all the way over.
I can now start to pick a color from the image and, if i put it on that orange color, it will select that exact color. If i tap plus. I now add that particular color to my color palette. Everything is really starting to fall in place. There’s only one thing: that’s bugging me now and it’s that the sail is covering the woman’s face. So, i think I’d like to try something where i make it feel as though she is in front of those letters, and i know exactly how to do that and for that we’re going to use the mask tool.
In fact, what i need to first do is just reduce the opacity, so i can see the layer underneath and then with the mask tool i can zoom in, and i can start to erase those parts of the letter that are obscuring the woman’s face and head It doesn’t take too long just to erase those elements, and i just need to do, the same thing on that outline layer. Now i can bring the opacity back up and voila. We now create the impression of depth where it feels as though just the woman and not the entire photograph is now in front of that word sale right, so this has come together quite nicely.
The final thing I’d like to show you is my new favorite tool in GoDaddy studio. It works like magic, and it’s called the themes function. Sorry, the themes tool on the far right of my menu you’ll, see theme. If i tap on that, i now have the option of selecting a particular color palette for this entire design. So, i think this is uh this brand, that I’m creating here is rather sporty. So, let’s go.
Let’s see, i think they have sporty as an option.
Now, look what happens if i just tap that button.
Every time i tap it, it presents a completely different color combination based on a sporty color palette, so trying to pick the right colors for your design can be quite tricky, sometimes especially when you’re trying to match them together. What this does is it just takes away that guesswork for you? I think that looks pretty cool for now, so I’m going to leave it.
There only took a matter of minutes. Of course, you can make some final tweaks as you go, but i think that really illustrates how easy it is to start a design from scratch in GoDaddy studio.
