Hearing Aid Needs of Severe to Profound Hearing Loss Phonak Paradise

Every time I post a new video. Not all hearing losses are created equal and this is especially true when it comes to severe to profound hearing losses. Estimates vary, but the percentage of individuals with a severe to profound hearing loss is estimated to be around 10% of the entire hearing loss community. From a diagnostic standpoint, a severe to profound hearing loss is when an individual has pure tone thresholds greater than 70 dB HL which fall into this area on an audio gram.

Unless you have a hearing loss this severe it’s very difficult to comprehend the challenges that come along with it.

First of all, you need a hearing aid that can crank out a lot of amplification. The prescriptive targets for the amount of amplification required to overcome a severe to profound hearing loss are significantly higher than that of hearing losses that are more moderate. This requires a receiver otherwise known as a speaker that is powerful enough to provide this level of amplification without introducing distortion into the signal.

Second, when you have a superior to profound hearing loss you rely on your hearing AIDS a lot more. Because if one of those hearing AIDS stop working.

Or both of those hearing AIDS stop working, you don’t have hardly any residual hearing ability to be able to function without using those devices. This means that hearing AIDS that are intended to treat severe to profound hearing losses have to be extremely reliable and have really high IP ratings. IP ratings indicate how resistant a hearing aid is to dirt and debris, as well as moisture. The higher the rating the more resistant the hearing aid is, Which makes it more reliable. The third thing that individuals with severe to profound hearing loss need is wireless Bluetooth connectivity.

For most types of hearing loss having wireless connection to your phone or your tablet or computer is a nice thing to have. But when you have a severe to profound hearing loss this becomes more of a necessity.

The reason that wireless connectivity becomes more of a necessity for individuals with severe to profound hearing loss is that when you stream audio directly from a multimedia device into both of your hearing AIDS. The signal quality gets substantially better not to mention when you stream audio directly into both of your ears, you get something called binaural hearing which improves the clarity of what you’re listening to. And of course, if what you’re streaming is one of my videos, then obviously it’s very important and you won’t wanna miss the thing.

My Phonak app also allows you to do remote programming sessions with your hearing care professional from the comfort of your own home. So you don’t always have to go into their office if you need a quick adjustment. And the second thing that I have not yet mentioned is that all of these hearing aids that I just got done talking about, have integrated roger receivers which means you can directly connect to your favorite roger microphone like any roger IN microphone and even the new roger ON microphone.

And you can do all of this without having to add a bulky external roger receiver onto your hearing AIDS. Talk about an exhaustive list of options.
