Click the get started button. You’ll now be on the HostGator plans page. To get a free domain name from HostGator you have to purchase hosting with them. They do not give out free domain names without a hosting purchase.
You’ll see three different hosting plans you can choose from.
The hatchling, baby, and business plan. All three plans are eligible to come with a free domain name and a free SSL Certificate. The hatchling plan is a good plan if you plan on having just one website. You can always upgrade to another plan if you want to add more websites in the future. The baby plan is a good plan if you want to have more than one website as it includes unlimited domains.
I recommend this plan if you plan on having 2 or more sites. The business plan also comes with unlimited domains and includes add-on features such as SEO Tools, a free dedicated IP, and a free upgrade to a Positive SSL Certificate. For most the hatchling and baby plan will do just fine. You can always upgrade to the business plan in the future if you would like too. Next, choose the plan you would like to have and click the buy now button.
Next, you will see where you can choose a domain name. You’ll see the Hostgator banner for 1-year free domain registration on all Hostgator annual plans. To get the Hostgator free domain name you’ll need to purchase hosting for 12 months, 24 months, or 36 months. Type in a domain name that you would like to have. On the right-hand side, you can pick out the domain extension that you would like to have. To take advantage of the free domain name discount the domain extension has to be .com, .net, or .

Once you have your domain name picked out scroll down to the domain privacy section.
You can keep this selected or unselect this. This is completely up to you whether you get this or not. Domain privacy protects your personal information and keeps your personal information private.

All of these are completely optional and up to you whether you want them or not. The SSL
Certificate add-on isn’t necessary unless you want an upgraded SSL Certificate. The free one HostGator provides is just fine. Sidelock monitoring can be good if you want to help protect your site from hackers. It’ll let you know if a virus or malware is on your site.
If you are going to use WordPress there are a lot of free plugins that work just as well. The office 365 add-on isn’t necessary unless you really want it.
HostGator already comes with free email addresses with your domain name. Site backup is an add-on that I find really good. It’ll automatically make backups of your site periodically and if for some reason your site gets hacked into or something gets messed up with a click of a button you can restore back to just before things started showing weird.
Highly recommend this add-on. Lastly, improve your search rankings. This one isn’t necessary. It has basic reports that you might find helpful but submitting your website to search engines is free and Google will pick up on it. Scroll down and accept the terms and conditions and click the checkout now button.
