How to plan a bachelorette party you can’t attend How to Hen

Hullo! And welcome back to How to Hen I recently received a message on Facebook from a bridesmaid, who is currently here in Dubai, and was organizing a hen party in the UK. And since new restrictions have come in, she’s found herself that she’s going to be stuck in a hotel quarantine on the weekend of the hen, which is just like, so annoying and so heartbreaking. So I wanted to come on here and share with you what I shared with her in terms of ideas for how she can still execute a lot of the games and ideas that she had, while not actually being there. So the first thing of course is preparation and being super prepared and super organized, will help you get other people involved so that they can then take over with the weekend.

So I had suggested to her was, all of your games and activities that you plan on doing if they require any kind of materials, put together a list of what each game needs specifically. So for example, you’ve got your ‘Pin the junk on the hunk’ classic hen party game for that, you will need: the poster which either you have bought wherever you are and it’s stuck with you and the other person is going to have to buy or make Or, you know well enough in advance that you can get them to order one. You need the poster. You need either the stickers that come with it or you can have your own cut outs, if you don’t get the one with the stickers. You need some sort of scoreboard chart or paper to keep track of everyone’s score.

And pens in order to keep track of everyone’s score. You will also need blue tac or masking tape if you are doing cut outs that do not come with a sticky back and also just to stick the thing on the wall, the poster, in the first place. So that’s, I think that was about seven things that you need for that game to happen. If you are not even in the same country then you obviously can’t put this stuff together so you need to make it a list. One PDF that says this, this, this, this, this with checkboxes, for this one game and label that PDF with the name of that game.

Do that for all your activities and get people who are already there to get these things. So either it’s one person so maybe the spouse is really helpful and they’re willing to run around and get all the stuff for you or it may well be that some of the other people who are going you can give each of them a game or activity checklist and make them responsible for bringing that stuff to the weekend, because you are not going to be there once you I’ve got your sort of “folders”, your PDFs, your boxes for each game and activity, put together an itinerary of what the weekend should look like Activity one, roughly when. People don’t have to stick to exact timings, but it helps you and it helps them for some sort of structure in their heads Activity one, rough sort of time. Activity two, activity three. Break it right down into stuff as simple as chill time and when you’re going to have food, when you’re going to you know, so put all that in there so that whoever is there, whether it’s another bridesmaid, whether it’s someone else who takes over and is quite proactive You can give them that itinerary they will be there with it with all the games labeled named and they’ll get.

Okay, we’re gonna do this then we’re gonna blah blah, and then we’re going to have dinner and then after dinner were playing junk on the hunk Oh yeah, there’s a folder with all the stuff I need for junk on the hunk and they go and they get it, they put it up. If you want to be extra helpful, you can also include instructions, like really clear instructions in each of these checklists that are to be printed and put into the folder. So your junk on the hunk example will have all of the stuff mentioned, plus a little instruction thing for anyone who’s never played it before saying, okay, this is what you do: pin it on the wall, each person is blindfolded, oh you’ll also need a blindfold, don’t forget in your checklist, some kind of mask. Each person has to be blindfolded, spun around three times and let go and they have to stick the junk where they think it should go on the poster. If you’ve never played this game before and you don’t know what I’m talking about, please google it or, you know, don’t.

So, all we will have to do is look at the itinerary, go to the folder labeled with that game. All the stuff will be in it. Instructions will be in it and they can play. And it’s a sort of, you’ve created a hen in the box, kind of situation. Obviously, it really sucks if you’re not able to go and be there, but the easier you can make it for whoever it is that takes charge the better Just be super like, super, obnoxiously, patronizingly clear with all of your instructions and your checklist.

Because if someone isn’t in the same head space as you, something that seems obvious to you may not be obvious to them. All that matters really, is that your Bride has an amazing time you know, you want them to be just blown away by all the effort, at the end of the day. That’s who it’s for. Yeah, you really want to be there, but as long as she has a good time, that’s what matters, right? And then, you know, you can have another one.

Just whenever you are able to get free of your hotel quarantine you and the bride and whoever else that wants to go can just go out for a little bit if you’re able to go out. Or stay in and play any of the games that they didn’t get around to because let me tell you, there will be games that they don’t get around to Don’t get mad. when at the end of the weekend you ask how it was and how they enjoyed “X” game, whatever and they say, “Oh actually we didn’t get around to playing that” or “We didn’t do that one.” Do not be like “Why?!

? It was on the schedule!” because these things don’t always go to schedule. So, don’t get mad It means you can do and be part of them at a later date. Okay.
